Blade Runner: Suenan los Androides con Ovejas Electricas (Pocket Edhasa; 8) ReviewI've just attended a seminar on "Philosophy & Sci-Fi" and was delighted when PKD was chosen the first author to discuss. I plunge into reading and re-reading his works.
Obviously the second step of my PKD-mania is to produce new reviews!
EDHSA with its Nebulae collection is one of the oldest Spanish sci-fi publishers and here is one of its latest books.
"Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" (1968) aka "Blade Runner" is one of PKD's best known novels.
It is quite interesting to see how the book and the movie differing in many capital aspects such as: overpopulation (film) vs. under-population (book); androids are human if of artificial origin (film) vs. androids are not human, no matter how fervently they try to be (book); and nevertheless both of them convey to the reader/spectator the unique flavor of PKDian cosmos.
The book follows Rick Deckard extraordinary daily life. He is an android hunter and should dispose (kill, deactivate) of six last model android smuggled into Earth within 24 hours.
Over this complex background PKD constructs a deep disquisition on "What is to be Human?" yet he didn't write a boring "moral novel" but a thrilling text full of adventures , new original social organization, new religious ways and deep vital issues.
PKD describes his characters with a firm hand, giving them profound human traits. They strive to survive against dangerous odds. At the same time they try to discover the ultimate sense of life.
As usual with PKD writings an unfathomable melancholic undercurrent traverse the whole story.
This book is a real Classic with capital letter. Not only sci-fi fans may appreciate it, general (open-minded) public too!

Los Replicantes Nexus-6 eran superiores en fuerza y agilidad, y al menos iguales en inteligencia, a los ingenieros de genética que los crearon. En el espacio exterior, los Replicantes fueron usados como trabajadores esclavos en la arriesgada exploración y colonización de otros planetas. Después de la sangrienta rebelión de un equipo de combate de Nexus-6 en una colonia sideral, los Replicantes fueron declarados proscritos en la Tierra bajo pena de muerte. Brigadas de policías especiales, tenían órdenes de tirar a matar al ver a cualquier Replicante invasor.This novel hooks the reader to such extent that he comes the point of doubting whether what he's reading is really happening or it's only a part of Dick's pseudo-reality. In this way, the androids of Do Android Dream on Electric sheeps? In Blade Runner called replicants.
