Blades of Venisium (Blanc) ReviewI think I can actually say that Blades of Venisium is one of the few first new books that I have been able to enjoy from the adventure fiction genre. I grew up on Edgar Rice Burroughs' characters such as Tarzan and John Carter of Mars and Robert E. Howard's characters Conan and Solomon Kane, and I loved them for their depth and the authors' awesome descriptions and surrounding stories. Louis Gresham brings a host of new characters to life in Blades, and I found myself entranced in the story as it followed not just the main character Blanc, but other principal characters like the Emperor Thraximian, a bounty hunter named Wrath, and Sarakh, a pirate lord.
Also, Blades employs a literary trick that I'm not completely sure if I've ever seen; he intersperse's stories written by Blanc seamlessly into the book, uncovering clues to the plot to the reader as well as the characters in the story.
Blades of Venisium is definitely worth a pick up, I hope there's a sequel.Blades of Venisium (Blanc) OverviewAn amnesiac stranger in a frozen outland writes the untold story of a legendary outlaw whom none have seen in a decade. His work unwittingly sparks a manhunt that shakes the foundations of an empire. So begins BLANC VOL.1: BLADES OF VENISIUM.The novel traces one man's search for his lost identity in a realm suffocated by the grip of a steel fisted despot. He awakes in a snowdrift with no memory and no clues to his past beyond a sword with the word “Blanc" engraved upon it, a black and white mask, the bloodstained remnants of a bizarre costume, and visions of unfamiliar people and events haunting his mind. Calling himself LeBlanc, he writes the visions down and sells them as stories without realizing that one of his characters was once the most hunted outlaw in the empire. The unsettling level of detail in his work sparks the suspicion of an array of lethal manhunters desperate to capture the legend. The truth about his identity unfolds across his own story and those of his two protagonists: the disillusioned young knight Verdugren and the renowned outlaw Ragnalo. The stories converge in a storm of long hidden secrets and explosive violence when LeBlanc's past finally collides with the present.
